Since the DFW Fiber Fest was cancelled, we were asked to please visit the vendors online and make purchases as if we were at the Fest. No problem! I sat down and studied each vendor so I could make the purchases that would make me all warm and fuzzy inside. Here is what I have received so far. (there are still two packages coming in on Monday)
From Leading Men Fiber I purchased Spring Thaw Diva yarn as well as the Boneset pattern to make this into. My first ever speckled yarn. While it is superwash wool, I am hoping it is soft enough not to cause me issues when I wear it.
From Forbidden Fiber is a lovely skein of sock yarn for the hubby in the colorway ButterBeer. Yup, a Harry Potter themed wool for my honey.
From Black Wolf Fiber is a skein of 100% Alpaca sport weight in the colorway Peacock. This will also be for me and probably a nice neck shawl.
From Fiber Lady is Mouscal Painted 70% bamboo/30% cotton in the colorway Twighlight. Another shawl for me? Probably. I do wear them quite a bit here.
From Lazy Cat yarn Roadside Attraction is the colorway. This was a special dye just for the Fiber Fest. And look what else she sent with it.
A sweet kitty stitch marker and a card stock lazy cat that I will use as a bookmark. How thoughtful of her.
From Black Cat Fibers is another sock yarn for the hubs in colorway Conchology.
From Brazen Stitchery comes this super soft Superwash Merino wool in colorway Harmony. This will be the first time I will every do contrasting heels and toes. Fingers crossed I don't mess it up too bad.
From Suburban Stitches I got this lovely Suri Silk in the colorway Ronschach. This is also for me. It is a lace weight.
The halo on this silk is absolutely yummy and so very soft to the touch.
This is from Sharpin Designs. A magnetic Portuguese knitting pin. The magnet on this is much more powerful than the ones I have made. Looking forward to using it.
The way some of these skeins came packaged impressed me so much I took photos of that too.
Each order came with a hand written thank you note also. Great business practice.
On a very sad note. My LYS is closing. I just heard about it yesterday morning and decided to break my self isolation and go and pay them a visit. Everything in the store was 40% off. How could I go wrong? I found some treasures there too.
100% Lambswool sock yarn. These are already set up to make socks and they will match without having to search for the right place to start on the skein. I had seen this in a couple of the online places I ordered from. What a wonderful idea.
Some more lace weight yarn. This is all in an acrylic blend but has the look of mohair.
See the halo? Can you see the bit of shiny thread in it? I am excited to work with this yarn. I bought two skeins of each color. Yes, more shawls.
And the last photo is of Tie Dye sock yarn in wool, as well as some cable tools. I am hoping the tools will be easier to work with than the metal ones I use now. The metal ones slip out of my yarn very easily. Hopefully the plastic will have a little more gripping power.
My yarn shopping is over for a while. Like I said at the beginning I have two more orders coming in. One is a project bag and the other is a pima cotton yarn. I will post them on next weeks update.
Oh, did I say that was the last photo? Silly me..............I have a partial FO!
Sock #1 is done. I did not wait around but started sock #2 right away.
This should be completed by the middle of the week, if all goes according to plan. This is all I worked on this week. All other WIP's are sitting in the WIP basket taking a little nap.
Last night we did something I swore I would not do. We went to our BFFs home for dinner. While we were outside most of the time, I still was uncomfortable being out and about. These friends think the virus warnings are being blown all out of proportion. They even make fun of folks who are self isolating. Afterwards, I told hubby I just was not comfortable going out like this anymore until things started to calm down a bit. Let them laugh at me! The cases here in our county alone have more than doubled over a 24 hour period. I have no desire to cause our healthcare system to become so overloaded with cases that they need to choose who gets treatment and who dies.
Even when I have needed to run to the grocery store in the past week, I do not take a cart but take my shopping bags and put the groceries in them and carry those to the check out line. I use hand sanitizer as soon as I leave the store and wash my hands as soon as I come in the house. I never thought I would become this much of a germ-a-phobe.
I hope and pray you are all staying well and are managing to self isolate as much as possible. Thank goodness for fiber!
For all you in the UK & Ireland, I would like to wish you a lovely Mothering Sunday. Enjoy it!
For those of you who love history, here is a link to a brief explanation to the origin of Mothering Sunday.
Until Next Time.......................Happy Crafting!!!!!!
Scary times. We are not listening to advice and I think our measures may be about to ramp up. I think you are a bit behind us so hopefully people take it seriously soon.
ReplyDeleteYour socks are beautiful though and your purchases are fab. Stay safe.
Wonderful purchases! I have new sock yarn but it's in "quarantine" per the husband's orders. About another day it can come out.
ReplyDeleteI love all your purchase photos - my friend calls this yarn porn! I think you are smart to not go out anymore - we decided that as of Friday - only going for drives and to trails where there are no people, and no sitting on benches - we have our lawn chairs in the car. Your socks look great. Where I live we are the epicentre for deaths in the province (in a senior home just a mile from us. ) My niece has offered to get groceries for us and I will take her up on it. I am going to cancel my MRI, and doctor appointment. I will go for a blood test because the results will help the doctor give me medication for my heart and I need my heart strong. Scary times indeed, but we have to have hope and faith that we will be ok.
ReplyDeleteMarsha, if you feel uncomfortable, you should do what feels comfortable for you and your family; and you're right, who cares what anyone thinks. I'm one of those who thinks people are overreacting...but it's mainly based on those who are in panic mode...thinking the end of the world is here or hoarding TP...I filled up on gas the other day and the gas station owner had the CHEAPEST 4-pack of dollar store TP on the counter she was selling for $5. I couldn't believe the price gouging and I let her have an earful. I don't make fun of people who are scared, but I just try to stay sensible and keep informed without obsessing over the drama that the media is throwing at us daily. I do know the gravity of the virus. Mind you, I DO wear my gloves everywhere when I go out and wash my hands/sanitize, but I've always been a bit of a germaphobe anyway. I'm not really isolating, just living normal life, Alex and I don't really go out much anyway. We've been out once since all of this came to light and we have a pretty hefty pantry so we're okay on food. We order lots of things online, so no worries there. If we run out of milk or eggs, we can go to the local grocery store here in the village. Honestly the only thing on my mind these days is the new house and planning the move! Your yarns are beautiful and I love that little kitty!
ReplyDeleteYour yarns and other goodies are just beautiful, Marsha. What good photos you took. For some reason, even on my nice Nikon camera I struggle to get perfectly focussed pictures. I've assumed it's operator errors, but maybe I should look into whether or not it's something to do with my camera. It's quite a bit of age on it.
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to comment and thank you for giving me more ideas regarding this time of social distancing. First I want to say, though... While I totally respect individuals making some thoughtful and careful socializing choices during this time, I'd have a hard time trusting people who don't take this seriously. I can't fathom anyone who watches the news and tries to be informed thinking this isn't serious.
The other think I wanted to say it THANK YOU for mentioning that you use sanitizer on your way out of a store. I feel like such a dummy that that hadn't occurred to me. The one time I went to the grocery last week, I waited 'till I got to my car to use some disinfecting wipes. By that time (I've I'd come in contact with the virus, I would have spread it on my purse, on my keys, on my door handle, on my steering wheel... Now I did wipe down my steering wheel before driving off, but didn't think of the other things. Here, I think I'm thinking of so many not-obvious way to protect myself and I neglect the most obvious!
Beautiful, beautiful purchases! You and I must have very similar tastes because I would buy all that you showed ! Now I want new yarn !
ReplyDeleteThat was brave of you and hubby to have dinner with friends. My son and daughte-in-law have interesting attitudes about the virus and the precautions the world is taking. They think the media has hyped the subject and we are all being manipulated. Oh my goodness ! I decided yesterday to just not talk about the virus with them again.
I am one of those that do NOT feel the government is over-reacting. In fact I am of the opinion that the government did not act soon enough. It was made fun of - brushed off by our leader who should have been making plans - at the very least! So now sit in isolation - and I do so proudly, because if I don't I might become one of those folks adding to the burden of our health systems. And at 72 - I just don't want to get sick. So don't feel bad. You are in good company about being careful. Continue to do so!
ReplyDeleteOh, lucky you with all those beautiful yarns! I am still waiting for my St. Patrick's Day gift to myself which I ordered on 2/2! Never again will I order from Beachside Cottage Stitches!
ReplyDeleteI think you are smart....your friends.....not so much. Your socks are "handsome" too! I need to make some Rock City Rollers for this summer. Stay well!
It looks like you’ve picked up some lovely items, I’m sure the sellers really appreciate everyone who did mail order. Please continue to be careful and stay home, the scenes from Spain and Italy have been so heartbreaking with patients literally lying on sheets on the floors of corridors because they just cannot cope with how many cases. Plus the number of doctors who have died. These are fully developed countries, so I find anyone not taking this seriously to be crazy. I do wonder whether the US news is filtering the images we’ve seen, because otherwise how can it be that people aren’t being careful. Stay safe and stay home x
