WEEK 37

Hello readers.  Are you doing ok?  I hope so.  Let's look at some 'fun' stuff in get our minds off the troubles of our world for just a few minutes.

See the blue spot on the shawl?  That is where I was last Sunday.  I worked on this for the first half of last week.  There 2 days I did not even pick up needles or hooks.  It was such a dreary week with lots of rain.  That weather usually inspires me to knit away, but for some reason, not this time.

Then I thought I needed to cleanse my knitting palette.

I picked up a dishcloth and put just a few rows on it.  I still was not inspired to continue to work with any fiber.

What the heck?  This is not normal.  What could I do to get my mojo back?

How about casting on a Rose City Roller sock?  Yup, that was the ticket.  Stop yelling at me!  I am well aware of the fact I have seven other WIP's languishing.  All in due time.  This yarn has been so patiently waiting for me to give it a try.  I picked this up at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago.  It is their Yarn Bee Cozy Toes in the colorway Shadowy Meadows.  It is not an expensive yarn by any means.  Normally $4.99 a 50 gram skein.  I got it on sale for $3.49.  It is non-wool and reminds me of the Diversity Yarn hubby and I love so much.  Lots of stretch to it.

The fact I started it on DPN's is another thing that made me smile.  While two at a time magic loop is nice, DPN's still give me a certain internal happiness I can not achieve with any other needles.  Crazy, right?  Maybe it is because it took me so long to get up the courage to work with DPN's.  Once I got them figured out, they have been my go to for socks.  These socks will go to hubby again.  He wears socks much more often than I do.  He even makes sure I know each time he puts on a pair of socks I have made for him.  Love that man!

In other crafting news.....................the Dallas Fort Worth Fiber Fest got cancelled.  Not a huge surprise, right?  I cancelled my hotel reservation yesterday and am trying to get my airline reservation cancelled.  That may take a while.  With the travel ban going on, the phone lines are crazy!  I was told there was a 2 hour wait yesterday, to speak to a representative.  I would normally go on line and cancel but, my ticket was non-refundable.  I will receive a travel voucher for the ticket since it was no fault of my own this happened.  I just want to make sure I talk to a human so I have confirmation of this.  If I am unable to get through to them in the next few days, I will take my happy little self to their office in the neighboring town and do it face to face.

The people in charge of the Fiber Fest have asked the attendees to please go to the vendors websites and support them there as we would have at the fest.  That is on my to do list today.  Now that I no longer need to pay for a hotel, food or airfare, my fiber budget just increased quite a bit!  Once all the craziness has passed, I will be on the lookout for another fiber festival to go to.  There are so many of them throughout the year.  There will be one out there for little ole me to go to yet.

Our next little worry is our 'kids' in the military.  There is a complete travel ban on them until the middle of May.  This may or may not get extended out further depending on the state of the nation.  This means they can not travel more than 100 miles from their base.  It also means there can not be anyone, other than military, on the base.  This could impact their retirement plans if things get extended past the original travel ban end date.  Fingers crossed on this.

On the home front today, there will be a loaf of bread going into the bread machine soon.  I do believe I only have 1 load of laundry to do too.  The dogs still need that pedicure.  Hubby is going to smoke up some baby back ribs for dinner tonight.  I have 2 cookbooks to go through and mark recipes to try.  There will be some movie watching since all sporting events are cancelled.  And, of course, there are all those WIP's that need some love.  There may be some outdoor time too.  It is supposed to be sunny and in the mid 70's today.  Perfect for a little walk about or even knitting on the front porch in my lovely rocking chair.

The local Grand Daughter's high school has gone to online classes for the next week and will make a decision after that how they will continue. (Either online or open the campus back up)

The Grands that live in TX......their schools have just closed until further notice.  While those kids are thrilled with this, they have not realized that the days they missed will be tacked on at the end of the normal school year.  Texas could be going to school well into June!

That pretty much covers everything.  I pray you are all healthy and stay that way.  Please be kind to each other.  Not just during this 'crisis' but each and every day.

Until Next Time...........................Happy Crafting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Traveling, something we have all taken for granted. I was due to fly out to see my grands, Son and daughter-in-law the second week in April but that will not be happening. You're making great progress on your shawl. Funny how we get those temporary burn ours from crafting. My first go to is a dish cloth then a hat. Sometimes it works sometimes not. I love the sock yarn, the colors ! I am picturing a sweater for one of my grandsons.
Enjoy the rest of your week !

  2. I was the same way this week...no mojo for much of anything so I finally started a scarf that's garter stitch and easy so far. I do want to order some cotton or acrylic yarn for those Rock City Roller socks as that is what I wear in the summer. It's been raining here and chilly again...good handwork weather but I have been so tired. Hopefully, that was just yesterday and today will be better!
So sorry you had to cancel your trip. This is the way I live all the time. I never go out to eat or to any social get-togethers. I am a true recluse which might serve me well in this situation. I wish you and your family health and wellness through this pandemic. Aren't we lucky we can shop online? LOL!
I love that shawl and yes, dishcloths are great for cleansing the knitting palette. Your Rock City Rollers are "snazzy"! Have a good week!

  3. Well that’s funny, I lost my knitting mojo too, tried a dishcloth but have only done a few rows. I think this week I’m going to play with my loom instead. Stay safe, enjoy your online shopping.

  4. Life as we knew it has certainly changed quickly over the last couple of weeks. I hope your mojo returns, and you don't get any grief from me for casting on a pair of socks despite other wips. I love the rcr pattern and I am sure there is another in my near future. Our big fibre fest was cancelled this weekend too, but I didn't have to worry about cancelling plane tickets like you. What a shame, and I hope it all works out once you get hold of a real person to talk to. Take care of yourself and all your family. And yes, be kind. To ourselves, to each other and to all.

  5. I love double points best for socks. They look complicated but really once you figure out the secret - they are easy -

  6. I'm catching up with things here - having been without internet access for part of last week. I tried to use my phone to leave comments on people's blogs, but it seemed hit or miss on whether they took or not and I finally gave up. I should have saved the comment I wrote on yesterday's post here. As relieved as I am to hear the event was cancelled, I'm very sorry for the extra work and trouble it is for you to cancel airline tickets.

I'm in a bit of funk with working with yarn, too. I'm blaming it on the virus. I thought activities being cancelled and staying at home more would give me permission to knit and crochet (or stitch) to my heart's content, but it's having the opposite effect at the moment. As we all stay in touch with each other via our blogs, maybe we can help inspire each other somehow - either in doing what we know we love to do, or finding new ways to make this time productive.

Love how those new socks are turning out. And how sweet that your husband points out that he's wearing your hand-made socks when he does. That just made me smile. :)

  7. School close down started yesterday. My kids have been working on their assignments. The hub is now able to telecommunicate from home so he's holed up in the office. I plan to restart my nephew's Gramps cardigan.

  8. That's a bummer about the Fiber Fest but I like your solution of on-line shopping from the vendors. Good luck about getting the airfare back.

And your solution about losing your mojo makes perfect sense to me!
