YoP

Howdy!  It seems like longer than 2 weeks since I posted last.

We had a very nice vacation and road trip.  We left on the 17th, after I got off work, and headed to Las Vegas.  It was an ok drive but was dark about an hour after we left, so crafting time was short and sweet.  We were on the move from the time we got there until we left on Tuesday morning.  We spent a lot of time with my Mother In Law and enjoyed visiting with her.  We also spent time with some dear friends of ours and had a blast.  Other than that we did a little gambling and had a lot of laughs.  After 39 years of marriage, there seems to always be lots of opportunity to laugh with each other.

I did have time to knit while spending time with family and friends.  Here is what I completed.

This was suppose to just be a beanie and not slouchy at all.  In fact, I made it 2 inches shorter than was called for in the pattern.  Here is the link to the pattern be loving

My daughter asked me to make this for her Halloween costume.  She is going to be a Minion this year and only needed the hat to complete her outfit.  I told her the bottom could be pulled up to make it more beanie like and she probably will on Halloween night.

I continued to work on my socks and the baby blanket this week.  Neither of which is completed so will not bore you with any photos of half finished projects.  The hat is all that I completed.  I didn't take any dish cloths to work on but I did take the baby blanket after all and my socks.

So how are you all doing on your YoP's?

It is back to work for me on Monday.  After having this past week off, I can see that when I retire next year I will be busier than when I work.  I did not have one quiet day at home until yesterday and that is because I told people that I wanted to be left alone.

You all will remember that I am planning to only use the yarn in my stash and not buy any yarn.  I HAVE NOT bought any yarn.  But........................by Grand Daughter found my "My Crochet Doll" pattern book and has decided that she would love for me to do the doll and ALL the items in the book for her for Christmas.  So we sat down and went through all the yarns that are required for the doll, clothes and accessories.  GD is HIGHLY allergic to wool, so we had to find alternatives for that.  So we did....................now she wants me to order all the yarn RIGHT NOW (she is 9) and get started right away.  My hubby told her to go into my craftroom and shop for yarn there.  She did and now there is a big bag of yarn sitting in the middle of the craftroom of yarn she wants me to use.  Never mind that it is all the wrong weight yarn.  Never mind the fact that it was all sorted in that room by weight and color and content.  Never mind the fact that it took me 2 days to organize the room so I could find just what I needed when I needed it.  Never mind the fact that it is MY room and not HIS room.  Oh well, she is only 9 and she is adorable and precious and totally cute as a button.  So HE is the one that is going to have to help me put it back together.  And NO!!!! I am not going to buy any yarn that is needed for the doll.  She will have to wait until after June 30, 2015.  It will be the perfect time to buy yarn and work on the doll set as all the pieces are nice and small and very portable.  I am always looking for small projects to work on in the summer.  I think I have found one!

Lets see how I am doing:

YoP update

Another week has flown past.  Do you realize how close we are to Halloween, Thanksgiving and then Christmas?  After that, we will be welcoming in 2015.  I seems like yesterday I was just putting away all the Christmas decorations.  Another month, and I will be pulling them out again.

I probably will not update next week due to the road trip and time I have off work.  I would like to use it to actually work on some projects and see if I can complete something.

I did have some fun this week in the fiber area.  I started a new project.
Riding on the Metro Socks, has been on my do to list for several years,  Finally, I decided, it was time to cast them on since I had a nice set of needles to do them on now.  I don't want to scare anyone away from this pattern, but I have frogged, tinked, ripped out about as many stitches as I have knitted.  You really have to keep track of the count or you end up with a real squirly looking pattern.  It is not a complicate lace pattern either.  I don't know if I will be able to memorize it as I go along.  I doubt it.

The yarn is Knit Picks "Comfy" fingering weight.  The color is Lilac, but I think it looks flat out PURPLE.  I love purple, so these socks will be for me.  I have only made myself 2 pairs of socks.  Granted, I don't need warm socks 80% of the year.  But for that other 20%, I would like to be able to wear my hand made socks.  I will be taking this project with me on my road trip that is coming up.  I will also be taking my dishcloth yarn and needles so I can do some mindless knitting when it is needed.

I did not work on the baby blanket at all this week.  So , No, it didn't get any bigger.  And, No, I didn't work on the other slipper this week either.  I am away from my home from 6:30am until 6:30pm, most days.  So that does not leave me a lot of time to craft at the moment.  I do my own driving to and from work, so there isn't any commute time to work on any projects.  Lunch is eaten at my desk while perusing Ravelry.

The other thing I did this weekend, I took y'alls advice and took my gift cards from my LYS and went shopping.  I am glad I did.  They actually had expired the end of May, but the owner was kind enough to allow me to use them if I used them that day.  I got 8 skeins of a lovely baby cotton yarn and 3 gorgeous skeins of lace weight yarn.  I spent NO $$$ out of my pocket.  In fact, there was $1.50 on the gift cards when I was done and I told them to keep it.  That fixed my thirst for fiber fun.  I should be good until the end of this YoP now.

Let's see how I am doing again:

YoP year 4 week 14

Another week gone and another month out of the way.  That is the way I think about it now.  Looking forward to retirement in about 8 months so I can spend more time playing with my fiber and enjoying life to the fullest.

But I did make some progress this week.

The baby blanket has grown quite a bit.  I still need to do more on it to get it to the size I want.  The lady I got the pattern from says she makes them square.  I like rectangle ones so I will be knitting on this a while longer yet.

One slipper is done.  LOL  It is in Green Bay Packer colors for the person that got the afghan last year.  I am going to put a pom pom on these as she doesn't have kitties that will eat them.

Other than those two items, I have not worked on anything else this week.  Work has been a bit crazy.  We are working overtime at this point in time to get the data re-entered that was lost when our computers crashed 2 months ago.  Supposedly the recovery lab said they would be able to recover all the data but after 2 months, we have lost faith in them and are doing by hand.  We lost a years worth of data, so you can imagine how long this is going to take to get it all entered back in.  Right now, our goal is to get everything from April through July of this year entered and then we will worry about the other stuff as we go along.

So instead of having 2-3 hours a night to work on my crafts, I have been cut down to 1 hour a night.  The weekend is pretty well shot too.  I do my grocery shopping and menu planning and church on one day and then do laundry and general housework on the other day.  Doesn't leave a lot of knitting/crocheting time.

The good new is............................I am planning a road trip in a couple of weeks.  So I will have lots of time in the car to work on crafty stuff.  I will probably do dishcloths and socks on the trip.  They are small projects and I can take them with me as we go from place to place on our trip.

So here is what my list looks like today and happy crafting!
