Busy Day

Yesterday, after I posted, I didn't do too much other than craft.  That meant, today I would need to make up for that.  

My eyes popped open a little before 5.  I grabbed a load of laundry and threw it in and then sat down in my recliner and fell back to sleep.  I woke up 1.5 hours later and hit the floor running.  

I managed to do 3 loads of laundry, packaged up 5 masks,  ran to the post office to mail the masks, went to the veggie store to pick up broccoli, got the roast seared and in the crockpot for french dip sandwiches tonight, emptied the dishwasher, made 5 more masks and a bandanna for one of my grand dogs.  In about an hour, I will be heading over to my Grand Daughter's house as she needs her hair curled for the play she is in.  They are video taping it and will put it on YouTube when completed.  (Our play houses are still on lock down)

My hubby's sister decided to spend another day with her son.  She will come back here tomorrow.  That works out perfectly for me.  I had plenty of time to complete my to do list that way.  She and I like to sit and chat and that means, not much gets done LOL.

This is the view out of my craft room window.  Lots of clouds rolling in.  We are hoping there will be some rain by the end of this week.

I still have plenty of material to make more masks.  There is going to be at least 3 or 4 more made yet this week.  They are going to a college student who needs masks.

I put the completed masks in zipped bags and wrote names on the front of them.  That way, I do not forget who gets which ones.

Time to go and slice the beef for the french dip.

WEEK 3 of YOP 10

How are y'all doing today?  I hope your week treated you well.  I had a normal type of week.  Well, as normal as it can be with that nasty virus running amok.  Mostly stayed home until the end of the week when I did grocery shopping and made a trip to JoAnn's for fabric for face masks.

Yes, I am making face masks again.  There are just too many people out there that need them and do not have sewing machines to make them.  Of course, there is always the almighty internet, which has TONS of them for sale.  But hey, I am retired with lots of time on my hands.  The people I am making masks for are dear friends and family.  So how many did I make this week?  ELEVEN!  I will be making more over the next week and then I just might be done for a little while...............again.  We shall see.

I still had time to knit and crochet, though.  In fact, I finished my Easy Does Shawl.

As you can see, it is not the kind you would wrap around you for warmth.  It is more of a neck shawl.

This is it wrapped around my neck.  Yes, I know you can not see any part of me.  That was the idea LOL.  It is perfect for those places you go where they think it would be fun to have the A/C set on a North Pole setting.  I am quite happy with the way it turned out.  That makes three FO's in as many weeks!  No, I do not expect this to continue.

I did more rows on the Sock Scrap Granny blanket but did not figure a photo every week of a long term project was necessary.

Of course, with the shawl off the needles, I needed a new project.

Last night, I started another To The Point shawl.  It is a quick crochet that makes me happy.

I need to cast on some more socks yet.  There have not been any socks on my needles in over a week.  I know, it's hard for me to believe that too.  The biggest decision is which yarn I want to work with next.  I will be making crew socks so I want a yarn that does not 'bore' me half way into the sock.  At this point, I am leaning towards one of the wools I own.  Hubby really likes wool socks and I need to start using up some of that fiber.  I do think, I will use the Hermione's Everyday Sock pattern again.  It is just enough patterning so I do not get too bored and not so much patterning that self striping socks loose their appeal.

Hubby and I are getting ready to head to Mass (7AM) and then come home for breakfast.  We have an online conference this afternoon for 3 hours.  It was a conference we were going to attend but because of 'you know what' it was moved to online.  That will be a perfect time for me to work on the shawl uninterrupted.

Hubby's sister returns to our house tomorrow and will be here for a few days before heading to Las Vegas.  We have a family dinner planned for Tuesday evening.  This way, all of our in town kids get a chance to see her and visit with her for a little bit before she heads out.

Other than that............................we are staying home as much as possible.  We are still binge watching Stargate SG1 in the evenings.  We are waiting for our monsoons to arrive.  They are quite late this year and our heat is so oppressive because of it.  Thank goodness for our pool and A/C!

It All Started......

This is my story and I am sticking to it!

First thing this morning, I put a loaf of bread into the bread maker.  While it was baking, I moved furniture so hubby could clean half of the house today.  The bread finished and then hubby started his cleaning routine.  

Once hubby got going, I headed into my craft room to work on cutting out and sewing masks............again.  Three masks got cut out and one completely sewn.  By the time that was done, so was hubby.

Next item on my to do list was to take our 'donations' to Goodwill and get them out of our house.  I loaded up my car with the boxes of goodies and after lunch, made the trip to Goodwill to donate.  I was not the only one there either.  There were three of us donating today.  The young man who helped me was most courteous too.  It is so nice to have all those treasures out of the house.

From there, I headed to JoAnn's.  I wanted some 'masculine' fabric for face masks.  Let me back track a little here.  During lunch, my daughter had called and I mentioned to her I was going to make a JoAnn's run.  She wanted to know if they carried Minky Fleece material.  I told her I would look when I got there.  OK, so now on to the story of going to JoAnn's.

This was the first time I had been to JoAnn's since the pandemic hit.  There was a sign on their door stating only 58 people at one time were allowed to be in the store.  Sure enough, there was an employee keeping track of people coming in and going out.  They limit the number per square foot of the showroom floor.  I doubt there were even 30 people inside.

I found the material I wanted in about 20 minutes. However..................getting the material for my daughter....................that was another issue.  Take a look at what I ended up doing.

I spent more time sending photos for approval than I did waiting to get fabric cut.   It took me over an hour to get the material she approved of.  The photo on the bottom is what she finally decided on.  

I am home now and happy to be here.  Tonight, I am making cheese enchiladas.  Our enchiladas are made using green enchilada sauce.  The red sauce upsets my stomach so green is my friend.  There will be refried beans on the side too.  YUMMY!  

Fingers crossed......................I just might have a finished object for my Sunday post.  That would make me super happy.  Come back on Sunday to see if I did it or not.

Time to kick back and enjoy some down time with the hubby.

Questions

It has been a day where all I seem to come up with are questions.  I don't have all the answers though.  For instance;

Why oh why does my grocery store need to rearrange everything AGAIN?  This was done less than a year ago.  I am still trying to get used to that design and then today, they are rearranging it all over again.  Why?

Why does my male dog insist on cuddling with me when I am all hot and sweaty?  Do I look cold?  But, I can not make him move.  He just looks so sweet when he cuddles.

Why does my female dog not eat her breakfast until we are eating lunch?  Does she think we will feel sorry for her and give her people food?  After 12 years, she should know better.

How did this week fly by?  I woke up thinking it was Wednesday.  Surprise!

How many face masks can I get out of a fat quarter of material?  This one I have the answer to........................3-4 depending on the size of the mask.

Why did it take 5 mosquito bites before I was finally able to kill that little bugger.  SPLAT!

You get the idea, right?  Just one of those days where questions just keep popping up.

Hubby worked in the front yard, this morning, trimming up bushes.  He went out at 8am and it was already almost 100F!  Poor guy, is totally wiped out from the heat.

While he was busy sweating I went to the grocery store for our supplies for the next week and to use the coupons that were ready to expire.  I got lucky with the coupons, most of those items were also on sale!  Double win on that front.  I was lucky that the store was not busy at all.  Everyone was so pleasant today too.  Made the shopping trip almost a pleasure.  My check out person was super sweet too.  

Since I was out and about, I went and picked up my meds that had been ready for the past week.  When I go out I try and get all my errands done on one day.  

I plan on going out again tomorrow.  This time it will be to drop off a bunch of stuff to Goodwill and then a trip to JoAnn's for fabric.  The men in my life would like some sports related face masks.  Hopefully I will be able to find cotton fabric with everyone's favorite teams.  If not, generic sports will work fine too.  I also need more muslin for the lining of the masks.  I don't see mask wearing to stop anytime soon.........might as well make a bunch.  Flu season will be here soon and with Covid.......................yup, masks will be our best friends.

Gotta go and put my hard boiled eggs in the fridge.  Tonight we are having a chef salad.  It is too darn hot to cook!  109F at 2pm

BAM!

And, just like that, I got energy today!  Finally!

I woke up nice and early (5) but lounged in bed until 6.  It felt good just to laze there for an hour.  I knew when I got up I had a to do list that HAD to be completed today.  Maybe, part of energy is a mind set.  You think?

So far today I have; made a loaf of bread, done a load of laundry, emptied the dishwasher, cleaned out the fridge, made a grocery list, hand washed the air fryer and deep dish pie plate, scrubbed counter tops and................wait for it................made face masks.

I got a message, yesterday, from a dear, dear friend.  Her significant other is unable to find a mask to fit him properly.  I told her I would make my largest size and send it to him.  If it fits, I will make him some more.  (Just because I really like this couple!)  I got it completed yesterday afternoon and ran straight away to the post office and mailed it.

After I finished all the kitchen cleaning, I headed back into my craft room.  I had promised our prayer partners I would make masks for their daughter in college.  I made one and will wait to see if it fits her ok.  If it does, I will make several more for her to wear to classes.

There are other masks I have cut out and have them partially sewn.  They will be worked on this afternoon.  I want to have a 'stash' of masks in all three sizes.  That way, if someone needs a mask, I will be able to grab one and give it to them.

My chunky monkey, Enrique, loves to have his photo taken.  If I say his name and he sees my phone or camera, he will freeze and wait for me to say I am done.

Dog Days

Today, I did not have time to sit around and goof off.  Both of the dogs had their yearly exam at the vet.  Let me tell you about this little adventure.

First off, the dog owner is not allowed inside the clinic because of Covid19.   This does not bother my female at all.  She just loves to be on a leash and going somewhere.  The male is not fond of being separated from me and he shows his displeasure by flattening himself onto the ground and refusing to walk.  

So, here I am, sitting in my car, it is already 100 degrees outside in the shade so the car needs to be running with the A/C on.  Their appointment was at 10.  My call from the vet finally came in at 10:45.  I was informed they no longer waived heartworm tests even though preventives were given each month as prescribed.  That jumped my bill up a mighty bit.  I was also informed the female needed to have a dental done as well as have a lump from her left flank removed soon.  The vet said she would send out an estimate for that.

Finally, at 11:30, my dogs were returned to me so we could go home.  I also got the estimate for the dental and mass removal.  As soon as I saw the price I started crying.  It was more than my house payment!  Coming home in tears was not what hubby expected.  After I showed him the estimate he understood my dismay.  He was so sweet.  Told me not to worry about it and that we needed to get it done for her health.  

My next move was to call my BFF.  She works at a vet's office.  I read her the quote and what all was on it.  She was floored too.  After she calmed me down, she promised to get a quote from her office for me for the same procedures.  Not 15 minutes later I had the quote and it was half the price of MY vet's quote!  Come to find out, my vet sold his practice to another entity.  They are know for being the highest priced vet in the valley.  It would have been nice if I had been informed of that before now.

Needless to say...................I will be changing vets ASAP.  My BFF is off work for a few days but when she goes back, she is going to make an appointment for Luna for her checkup and then get her scheduled for her dental and mass removal.  Poor little girl dog!  She is the sweetest dog.  Would never hurt a fly and loves everyone.  All she wants is to be loved on and petted.  My little old lady, she is.  We estimate her age to be between 12 and 14.  I was informed, dogs of her breed can live up to 20 years, so we do have a few more years with her.

In other news................my BFF got tested for Covid yesterday. She doesn't think she has it but.......since she had a sore throat yesterday, her office made her get tested.  She can not go back to work until the results come back.  One of the Deacons at our church sent us an email last night............his son in law died Sunday morning from Covid complications.  He had no underlying medical conditions, was very young, and married with children.  What a shock that was!  

We have just finished lunch and are kicking back for the day.  I have chicken breasts in the crockpot for the dogs' added protein for their food.  Hubby and I are having Air Fryer pork chops tonight for dinner.  Not sure what will be served with it yet.  Maybe a nice salad.
