YoP week 31

I am trying to get this finished up so I can get it posted before the end of the week.  Seems like the weeks are going by faster and faster these days.  Our weekends are no longer free time anymore.  I don't think I see a free weekend until April sometime.  Crazy life I live, huh.

Anyway.  I don't have any more finished off items.  I did manage to turn one heel of my socks and am getting ready to do the other heel this week.  Then it is just doing the legs to complete them.  I don't mind that part at all.  Although, it can get a bit boring but with this lace pattern, it seems to keep my interest a bit more.

I still have that darn sweater that I need to get cracking on.  I would like to have it done for the spring/summer this year.  As I looked at it the other evening I came up with a thought.........why am I not doing this in the round?  I mean, there really are no sleeves in this.  I know how to do bottom up and top down both in the round and it seems crazy to me to be doing this front and then back and trying to make sure my 'lace' patterns match up.  So I may rip it out and start it all over again in the round.  I know that sounds crazy, but it will be easier in the end.

I did complete my next CAL square this past week.  I will post a picture of it next week though.  I don't have my camera with me where I am making this post, so no photo.  I also managed to get the last boot cuff done last Sunday.  The three pairs have been delivered to their owner and she loves them!

This yarn diet is killing me.  I so want to start on the "My Crochet Doll" for my Grand daughter, but I am in need of LOTS of sport weight yarn and I have ZERO in my stash.  I have DK, Sock, Worsted and Lace but no sport!  I am holding out until the end of June to purchase it and will just concentrate on my other projects I have listed using the stash I have at the moment.

Work is going a bit smoother........................well, we did have a little computer problem AGAIN for about 2.5 days.  But we are all better again and sailing along.

My co-worker is still out on bereavement leave.  The funeral is this weekend and we are all going.  We have to travel 125 miles to go to it, but we are a pretty close knit group and want to be there for her support.

Next weekend is Valentines day and we have a retreat at church that day.  The weekend after that is the start of spring cleaning at my house and the weekend after that I have my Grand Daughter over night.  March is filled with visits from friends and road trips.  I keep thinking, that when I retire, life will slow down for us.  But Hubby keeps telling me it just gets worse!  I really need my crafting time.  I hope he knows that.  LOL

Anyway.............that is all the news I have for now

Happy Crafting!

  1. Ah, I've just finished some socks myself - the legs seemed to go on forever!! If it means you will be happier and will wear the sweater, then ripping may be the only answer.

  2. I'm told when you retire it's an enduring mystery as to how you ever had time to do the things you used to do, as there are so many other things to take up your time! Just try to make sure there's lots of play time.

As for the yarn diet, I typically use a DK in place of a Sport weight yarn without batting an eyelash. And it usually works out!

  3. I would use the dk weight as well and most times I just go up or down a needle size depending on what I need. My February is chock a block full and other things keep popping up and I'm not sure when I'm going to fit those in so I get where your coming from, I just refuse to look at my March in case it's as busy :) Well done on the socks and on the boot cuffs it seems to me your making great progress on your list and it makes sense to rip the top out and do it in the round.

  4. Why don't you try one of the swap groups on Ravelry to get the yarn that you need? I did that when I needed some cotton and had none in my stash. It was great - got the cotton and managed to off-load some yarn that I had no particular use for. As long as you don't *purchase* any yarn and the actual quantity of yarn doesn't change it's not cheating on the yarn diet, is it? At least that's what I'm telling myself!!

  5. I think knitting in the round is a wonderful idea and I do it anytime I can manage it as I really don't like seaming. I agree with Ruth regarding trying the doll pattern with DK with needle size adjustments. Sport weight is an enigma to me. I can hardly find it and I am not sure I like the weight of it all that much.

Glad your work technology issues have settled down! We had some issues this past week and it is so frustrating as my whole job hinges on certain things working correctly and smoothly on a consistent basis. Grrrr....I did end up writing a "strong" email to our IT guys about it as I think they are clueless about the ripple effect when things are clicking along on all cylinders.

I hear all the time how busy my retired friends are and all that jazz, and all I can say is I can hardly wait to try it out and see for myself! I have about 10 more years to go.

  6. Yes, I am retired and I don't seem to have any more time than I ever did but I do what I want when I want to and that is lovely!
It's is hard though to be home every day as I notice things more than when I was working plus I had a cleaning gal then so do I really have more time or not? LOL!
I agree with the other gals about the DK weight. Congrats on using your stash but don't limit yourself too much...you deserve to enjoy each day! You've done an amazing job on your YOP list!
    Safe travels to the funeral.

  7. Sounds like you've been super busy. I'm getting back into blogging and am out today blog walking, though I really need to get up and go for a real walk. Looking forward to pictures of your projects. Take Care.
