YoP WEEK 6

Another week, another post.  This one is a day late but I did make one.

We have had such a busy week.  My niece and her three children as well as my nephew came to town last week.  We have had so much fun with them.  It has been years since I had seen my niece and I had never met any of her children.  So that has been a real blast for me and my hubby.  They are just adorable and I love them to pieces.  I hadn't seen my nephew for about 3 years, so it was great to see him again and get to know him as a grown man.  The nephew left on Sunday and the niece and her children leave tomorrow.  The house will be real quite for a day and then my last nephew comes in on Wednesday and will be here until Saturday.  They are all here to see my mom since she has been so sick.  She has totally enjoyed all the attention too.  We still have two more that will be coming to visit but not until September and another one in November.  I love having a big house that everyone can stay at when they come.

So now you know why my blog post is a bit late.  I did manage to get some crafting done though.  Wanna see?

First up is another dishcloth.  This one took a bit of doing.  I had never done knitted bobbles before.  I hope you can see it is an anchor.  LOL  It is a Christmas present for someone dear to me.

I did another DW dishcloth in the same color as last weeks.  This one is a bit smaller as I had just a little under half a skein left from the big one.

Lastly, I started back on working on the second fingerless mitt.  The stripes are not going to match and at this point, neither the recipient or myself care.  I am just going to be very happy when it is completed. I will then have the entire 'set' done for Christmas.  I have already completed the scarf and the slouchy beanie.  This is the last item I needed to complete.

I also did something this week I have not done in years.  I taught my niece to crochet.  I sat her in front of me (she is right handed and I'm not) and started her out and she is now working on a ripple afghan for her home.  We went and got the yarn for it yesterday.  It is 241 stitches and she is doing grand with it.  She showed me a picture on Pinterest and I found the pattern from Attic 24 and she is off and running with it.  This will help her pass the 4 hour plane ride home to Wisconsin from Arizona.

I have been off work for the past week and it has been so nice.  I love having time to do stuff around the house.  Grocery shopping during the day when everyone else is working is a dream.  Working on my crafts whenever the mood strikes is fantastic.  I am really looking forward to my retirement next year.  I could get use to this freedom quickly.

So let's check out the YoP list AGAIN!
YoP 4 List

New items to do
Lapghan for my mom
(I started on this on July 1st since this is when the official YoP 4 started)
FINISHED 7/6/14

2-3 Doll Clothes
(I really want to get this done this year......I really do)
TWO DONE 7/16/14
ONE ON THE NEEDLES
ALL FINISHED BY 7/22/14

Slippers
(These make the best Christmas gifts and my entire family said they need new ones)

WIP's to complete

1 fingerless mitt
( This is for a Christmas gift this year so it WILL be done soon)
STARTED WORKING ON IT 8-10-14
Log Cabin Blanket
(This has been in my WIP pile for about 3 years now.  It needs to leave it)

One sock
(This also needs to be done for Christmas.  It's been lingering around for 6 months)
Didn't touch it this week

Yearly projects I do anyway

12 dishcloths
( These also make such nice Christmas gifts and are quick and fun to do)
SIX COMPLETED 8/9/14

Socks
( I love doing them and can not say how many pairs I will complete but need to do some)

Things to increase my skills

2-3 test knits/crochet
(I have done a few of these over the past year and loved doing them.  They totally test my skills as a crafter and help me branch out into areas I would never ever think of going)

Personal Goal

Use only the yarn from my stash for all the above projects.
( I am truly going to try NOT to purchase any more yarn this year.  I have already gone 4 months without buying any yarn and I figure I can continue that trend for at least another 12 months.)
NO YARN BOUGHT AS OF 8/10/14

Take photos of ALL items when done.
(I have a habit of gifting items and never photographing them for my blog)
YUP, SO FAR AS OF 8/10/14

So until next week
Happy Crafting!

  1. I had company too and such fun but nice to get back to normal. I too was surprised I got anything done while they were here but I did. Summer is wrapping up and everyone will be back in school soon.
So sorry to hear your Mother is ill but so nice everyone could make it to see her and that you have a nice place for them to stay.
You are going "stash busters" on your project list! And your Christmas presents are getting done too! I saw the anchor right away and I love doing dishcloths for gifts. Doing some right now...almost always really. They're great to just pick up and start working...usually.
Enjoy the rest of your time off and I'm retired and trust me...you will love it!

  3. "Grocery shopping during the day is a dream" just yesterday I discovered that hitting Costco fifteen minutes before it officially opens on Sunday is also a dream. Turns out they usually open the doors early :)

The anchor motif looks crystal clear to me. Bobbles can be fiddly but the give great scrubbing texture!

  4. It's always nice to catch up with family, your mum must have been in her element being made such a fuss of.

The Anchor dishcloth looks like a fun knit, I always think dishcloths make such lovely usable gifts.

  5. Sounds like you had such a great time with family and it's always so much fun having people come and go and pop in and out, enjoy them.
Love the anchor and it is immediately visible.

  6. Sounds like you had great fun catching up with family, and you still managed to get knitting done! Good job teaching your niece - my oldest son asked me recently to teach him crochet and he started doing crochet chains. He's only 7, so we are taking it slow. I'm thinking once he's got the hang of that I'll teach him the next step.
